and district – the District of Columbia. Washington, D.C. is located on the east coast. It was chosen by George Washington as the permanent site for the nation’s capital in 1800. It was he, who named the land D.C. after Christopher Columbus. And this city was named after the first American President.

The White House belongs to everyone in the USA. It is open for tours.
