Слайд 11According to legend the town was founded in 974 by
Olga, the Prince of Kiev, who was impressed by beautifulness
of the local high hill that stood near the confluence of two rivers -Zakhodnyaya Dzvina (Western Dvina) and Vitsba. Exactly the River Vitsba gave its name to the town.

is situated on the bank of the River Sozh, a
