One of two candidates for the earliest surviving

copy of Cædmon's Hymn  which is held by the Cambridge University Library.

The other candidate is St. Petersburg,National Library of Russia.

7th century

Cædmon's Hymn is a short Old English poem originally composed by Cædmon, in honour of God the Creator. It survives in a Latin translation by Bede.

Charles Dickens
Dickens left school to work

in a factory when his father was incarcerated in a

debtors' prison. In his youth he was a stenographer. At the age of 20 Charles became a reporter and in mid-twenties he published debut essay- Sketches by Boz. The Adventures of Oliver Twist is the second novel by Charles Dickens, and was first published as a serial (literature). Dickens had identified that criminality was very popular as a literary theme. And he wrote about prisons and slums that knew firsthand. Dickens worked a lot on founding a newspaper – Daily News. Great Expectations (1861) – one of the last Dickens works about unexpected changes in life.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
He was an author

of adventure, historical, fiction and humorous stories. The most famous

work of Arthur Conan Doyle is Sherlock Holmes. First edition of Sherlock Holmes was in 1891. The prototype of Sherlock Holmes was writer`s friend, the doctor worked in Edinburgh Royal Hospital. He was famous for his ability to guess a person's past and character the tiniest details. The expense of this work he became famous in life. During the 1st World War he published letters about the war in newspaper – The Times. Arthur Conan Doyle was awarded the order of the British Empire - obverse and reverse.

Rudyard Kipling
Kipling was born

in India and only in 15 years came England. His

debut was collection of poems in 1886. From 1885 traveled a lot in Asia and the USA as a newspaper correspondent. After return he published 6 books which brought the popularity. Jungle Book is well-known Kipling s work which includes :"Mowgli's Brothers", "Hunting-Song of the Seeonee Pack", "Tiger! Tiger!", "Mowgli's Song, "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi". First time was published in 1893. Rudyard Kipling is known as the first British received a Nobel prize in literature in 1907.

book in 1905. A. A. Milne wrote a lot of poems

for Christopher Robin (his son) and about him. It was published in 1924 under the name “When We Were Very Young” and sold half a million copies! In 1925 the Milnes bought a farm in Sussex for weekends away from London. From this old house it was the Ashdown Forest where Christopher Robin and his teddy used to play. Each daily adventure in the Forest gave A. A. Milne more material for his now famous book "Winny-the-Pooh "published in 1926. A. A. Milne's secret for success was that he could get inside the mind of a child. After the book " Winnie-the-Pooh "A. A. Milne wrote another book of children's verses— "Now We Are Six" and "The House at Pooh Corner" which sold to a waiting public in millions of copies. The four Pooh books are still as popular today as they were many years ago when they were written.

There are more than 100 book which translated into 103 languages. Circulation is more than 4 milliard copies. During the first World War worked a nurse in hospital.
