The theme of my project is “Halloween”.
Every nation and
every country has its own traditions and customs. Traditions make a nation special. Some of them are old-fashioned and many people remember them, others are part of people’s life. Some British customs and traditions are known all the world. A lot of them have very long histories. Some are funny and some are strange. On October 31st British people celebrate Halloween. It is the most colourful and exciting holiday of the year. Though it is not a public holiday, it is very dear to those who celebrate it, especially to children and teenagers. This day was originally called All Hallow’s Eve because it fell on the eve of All Saints Day. . It is a festival of traditional games (bobbing for apples) and merrymaking.
I am going to tell you about the most popular customs of Halloween. The most known custom is the tradition of dressing. It was believed that ghosts and witches came back to the earthy world on the Halloween, people wear masks that these spirits didn’t find them and mistake for fellow spirits. Now children celebrate Halloween in unusual costumes (not only ghosts and witches but pirates, princess, Draculas, Frankenstein’s monsters), masks and go trick-or-treating. On Halloween children knock on doors demanding a treat and people would disguise themselves as witches and hosts, in order to obtain food or money from them.
