Слайд 3About 80 per cent of British people live in houses.
About 67per cent of the people in Britain own their
own houses or flats. This is explained by geographic isolation from the mainland UK. Desire for isolation characteristic of British construction.
Слайд 4In towns, there are three main types of houses: detached,
semi-detached and terraced.
Слайд 5Detached house, standing on its own plot of land, is
usually more expensive than the others.
Слайд 6A semi-detached house, is similar, but shares one wall with
its neighbor, which is its “mirror image”. It is usually
smaller than a detached house. Most of these houses have two rooms and a kitchen downstairs and the bedroom and a bathroom upstairs.
Слайд 7A terraced house is one of a row of houses,
often built in blocks of four or more and sometimes
expending the entire length of a street.
Слайд 8A Block Flats (apartments)
A flat is part of a bigger
building where all the flats share a front door. Only
cities and very big towns have flats like the one you can see left.
Слайд 9A Bungalow
A Bungalow is a house which is only on
one floor, no stairs. It may be joined to another
bungalow or might stand alone.
Слайд 10Traditional village house is a cottage. It is a small
semi-detached or detached old house, often with old wooden beams
inside, and possibly with a straw or a thatched roof and attractive flower garden. The cottages were originally simple homes of country people, and often had no running water or other facilities. Today, many of them have been modernized and are considered by some people as ideal home. Not only for their "cute character", but also for their attractive rural setting.
Слайд 11Appearance English home
English home is appearance. "Proud Georgian-style house, built
of local stone light, four common rooms, six bedrooms and
changing room - all marked with the seal of his time."
Слайд 13Materials used for the construction of the British their homes
are due geographically. It is a natural stone, brick, wood
for the interior decoration and construction of half-timbered houses, tiles and cane (or straw) for the roof. The wood trim is quite expensive because "large forests in the country almost never occur. The main plant formations - heather, grass and sedge heath. "
Слайд 14Weather
For England, characterized by frequent mists and plenty of rainfall
in the west of the country falls 2000-3000 mm of
rain per year, in the south-east - 600-800 mm. Therefore, the basic material for the construction of the house is still a stone and brick. It is more resistant to rot in damp conditions, as well as good protection against fire in case of fire. After all, for England is also characterized by unstable weather with strong winds, which are easily spread the flames.
Слайд 15Windows
In England, the frost does not happen, generally the temperature
rarely drops below zero, while winters are mild and warm.
Therefore, in English homes do not use double glazing on the windows. The design of the windows too British to be original. In England, the windows do not swing open on hinges, and climb steeply up, slipping on special wheels on the principle of the guillotine.
Слайд 16Doors
Also, you will not see double entrance doors, one door,
and it immediately leads to the street.

device of a typical English home, in terms of some
compare it to Russian housing , to form an overview of the architectural styles of the UK, the peculiarities of the English housebuilding and the effect on it of its geographic situation .

• Cost ( instead of the central fireplace or gas heating )
• Restraint and rigor in the selection of colors for interior decoration.
• Reliability and durability ( use of durable materials for construction, massive furniture )
• Popularity Georgian style, later worldwide name "English" style.

англичанина – его крепость», или «East or West, home is
best», переводится на русский как «Где бы ты ни был, а дома лучше» I better understood what the English character.
