Aberdeen is the home

of Catherine Gordon, the mother of George Gordon Byron in

Scotland where he spent his childhood.
Arthur Conan Doyle was a great writer. He was born in Edinburgh, in the family of Irish. Conan Doyle was one of the first, who started the fashion of detective story.
Edinburgh is the home of Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1849).He wrote many books about adventures, because when he was a boy, he thought about other countries and drew maps of different places which he wanted to see.
Also Edinburgh is well-known as Sir Walter Scott’s birthplace. He wrote stories of Scottish life, including several, based on historical characters.

Alloway is associated with

the name of Robert Burns, the great Scottish poet. Scots

over the world celebrate his birthday every year on the 25th of January.
Whitby is a British town that inspired Abraham (Bram) Stoker to write the classic vampire tale “Dracula” and Peter Benchley to write his book “Jaws”.
Haworth is the place where sister Bronte often lived (home of father). Charlotte wrote “Jane Eyre”. Emily is best known for her novel “Wuthering Heights”. Ann published “Tenant of Wild fell Hall”.

Agatha Christie visited a

friend in Marple once and so impressed with the town

that she decided to name Miss Marple, a detective in her books, after this town.
Stratford-upon-Avon is the birthplace of William Shakespeare. He was one of the greatest and famous writers. William wrote comedies, tragedies, historical plays, the Sonnets and so on. Also he worked as an actor at the Globe Theatre in London.





In Walsall you can follow the story of Jerome K. Jerome, the author of the popular novel “Tree Man in a Boat”.
Cambridge University has produced a galaxy of writers: from Wordsworth to Tomas Gray and Milton and Thackeray.

R. D. Blackmore, C.S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien and

others) leant in Oxford University.
In Wales, not far from Cardiff, the modern children’s writer Roald Dahl was born.
Bath is a cultural center which has attracted and has inspired many writers. Such as Wordsworth, Shelley, Tobias Smollett, Henry Fielding, Richard Brinsley Sheridan, Walter Scott, Charles Dickens and so on.
Portsmouth is the home of Charles Dickens. He was born on the 7th of February, in a poor family. His many famous books describe life in Victorian England and show how hard it was, especially for the poor and for children.

birthplace of Alan Alexander Milne and “Winnie-the- Pooh”.
George Noel Gordon Byron (1788-1824) was born in London. He is well-known as poet, who threw call to literary tradition and public opinions.
Also London is the home of Daniel Defoe, who wrote “ Robinson Cruse”.

The Globe Theatre is the English public

theatre. It was built on the south bank of the

river Thames in 1592. Theatre was a round building with the stage the center open to the sky and held 1200 onlookers. If it rained, the actors got wet. If the weather was too bad, there was no performance. A modern reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, near its original site, was unveiled in 1966

The Globe was opened by performance “Henry V”. Many plays of William Shakespeare (“Othello"," Romeo and Juliet” and others) were produced and many works of B. Johnson received reputation here . But the Globe burned in 1613. In next year, building was rebuilt. And it was pulled down in 1644 by the parliament.

Library of Scotland, The John Rayland’s Library and other) or visit to the special book and writers’ museum all over Great Britain (The National Portrait Gallery, Westminster Abbey, the British Museum and museum-houses so on).
They erect monuments and set statues.( The statue of Sherlock Holmes in Picardy Place was sat in honor Arthur Conan Doyle).
At the schools children learn life and works of great writers.
People celebrate the birthdays of the famous poets and writers.( Charles Dickens’ Festival in Rochester, Burns’ supper).
Modern people honor writers, when they go or read sights about them in Internet.
