Слайд 18The monument to Major-General Gurtyev, a hero of the battles
of the Volga and of the Orel-Kursk Bulge. It
was opened in August, 5, 1954
Слайд 19In 1966 Orel celebrated its 400th anniversary. To commemorate this
memorable date an impressive monument was erected on that place.

men who fell in the battle to liberate to town
in 1943
Слайд 21The Orel Drama Theatre bears Turgenev’s name. It is the
oldest Russian theatres which sprang from the private theatre of
Count Kamensky with its troupe of self actors. The Orel Drama Theatre over 150 years old. Many famous Russian actresses and actors such as Yermolaeva, Komissarghevskaya, Savina, Shchepkin, Ernesto Rossi gave the performances there.
