the Pacific walrus. In September this year, up to 200
dead walruses were found on the shore of the Chukchi Sea, north-west coast of Alaska.

These animals use the drift-ice to rest, childbirth and nursing
babies, as well as for protection from predators. Melting Arctic
ice is a threat to Pacific walrus, so in September 2009, the Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. announced the addition of a walrus in the Endangered Species Act.
