Beefeaters –
бифитеры, стражники (guards) Тауэра, традиционно носящие средневековую униформу. Согласно (
according to) одной из легенд бифитеры впервые появились (appear) XV веке при Генрихе VIII и отвечали за королевский буфет. Отсюда и (so) произошло название “(boufitiers - буфетчики). По другой легенде “beefeaters” означает (means ) «поедатели говядины». Охранники Тауэра получили это прозвище (nickname) во времена, когда они ежедневно получали пиво (beer) и говядину (beef). Поскольку такая (as such) еда была роскошью (luxury) для бедняков (the poor), они презрительно (scornfully) называли охранников beefeaters. В настоящее время 38 бифитеров встречают гостей Тауэра, водят (make) экскурсии, фотографируются (be photographed) с туристами и кормят воронов (crow).
