Слайд 2Olympic GAMES
Modern Olympic games - the largest international complex sports
competitions which are held every four years under the auspices
of the International Olympic Committee. A medal won at the Olympic games is considered one of the highest achievements in sport. The tradition of the Olympic games, which existed in Ancient Greece, originated as part of a religious cult. The games were held from 776 BC to 393 ad, a total of 293 Olympiads were held in Olympia, considered a sacred place by the Greeks. From Olympia came the name of the games.
Слайд 3Ancient Olympic games
The Olympic games of Ancient Greece were a
religious and sporting festival held in Olympia. The winners of
the competition were revered as heroes in the war. The first official celebration was held in 776 BC, they were established by Hercules. A sacred truce was declared for the duration of the Games. In 393 BC, Games were banned by Emperor Theodosius 1.
Слайд 4Revival of the Olympic games
The Olympic idea and after the
ban of ancient competitions did not disappear for good. For
example, in England during the XVII century, "Olympic" competitions were repeatedly held. Later, similar competitions were organized in France and Greece. However, these were small events that were, at best, regional in nature. The first true predecessors of the modern Olympic games are the "Olympia", which was held regularly in the period 1859-1888. The idea of the revival of the Olympic games in Greece belonged to the poet Panagiotis Sutsos, embodied it in the life of public figure Evangelis Zappas.
Слайд 5Symbol of the Olympic games
The symbol of the Olympic games
is the Olympic rings, five bonded rings symbolizing the unification
of the five inhabited parts of the world in the Olympic movement. The color of the rings in the top row is blue, black and red. In the bottom row-yellow and green. Contrary to popular belief, each of the rings does not belong to a particular continent. [6] The Olympic movement has its own emblem and flag, approved by the IOC at the suggestion of Coubertin in 1913. Emblem-Olympic rings.

The motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius
(lat. "faster, higher, stronger"). The flag-a white cloth with Olympic
rings, is raised at all Games, since the VII Olympic games of 1920 in Antwerp (Belgium), where the Olympic oath was also first given. Parade of national teams under flags at opening of Games is carried out since the IV Olympic games of 1908 in London (great Britain). Since the 1936 Olympics, the Olympic torch relay has been held in Berlin (Germany). Olympic mascots first appeared at the 1968 summer and winter Games unofficially, and are approved from the 1972 Olympics.
