English on the Globe is hard to evaluate. The number

of English speakers vary from 600 million to 1.2 billion, depending on the source and calculation method. Also various sources put the English language by number of speakers from the second to fourth place in the world.
English for centuries been one of the most commonly used languages in the world. It was promoted by the colonial policy of the UK, especially the colonization of North America and Australia.
After the Second World War, the role of English has increased dramatically. U.S. has become one of the two strongest powers in the world and uncontested world leader, including such fields as armaments, science and technology.
Information space in the English language, including periodic and non-periodic print, television, film, radio, library resources, English Internet sector and other sources, is now unprecedented in scope and content.
A huge amount of artistic, scientific and technical literature is written in English. Technical and scientific publications, patents and inventions descriptions often exist only in English or translated to a very limited number of languages. All this together makes English the most important language in the world.
