Слайд 2History of St. Valentine's Day
In the III century. n. e.
in Rome ruled the cruel emperor Claudius II. He was
an evil and warlike man. And so, in order to strengthen his army, he issued a decree according to which men who joined the army could not marry. The cruel ruler believed that family ties make the man sentimental, gentle, and this does not help him to become a ruthless warrior.
But no decree could prevent love. The only hope was the young priest, who was called Valentine. Being a kind person with a soft heart, he crowned the lovers bypassing the imperial decree. Moreover, thanks to the fact that the church gave Valentina immunity, he helped lovers exchange letters and meet.
But all the secret becomes clear, and the illegal activity of the young priest was recognized by the emperor. Claudius issued a cruel decree, which sentenced Valentine to arrest, and then - and to death.
And now, while in prison, Valentine fell in love with the jailer's daughter - he was so impressed by her beauty and tenderness. The girl, having found out who was in prison, decided to meet with the priest and ... herself fell in love with him.
Prior to Valentine's execution, lovers wrote letters to each other, swore in eternal love and gave promises to always be together.
Valentine's execution was scheduled for February 14, 270. That day the lover wrote the last letter of his beloved. There were no confessions, no promises, no vows. And there were only two words "Your Valentine".
But for farewell and did not need other words. And this short note became a symbol of eternal love, loyalty and devotion and was called the valentine. And so the day of the execution of a Christian priest, strangely enough, became a holiday of all lovers.
