In 1939 representatives of

the Indian Tribe SIU asked the sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski to

immortalize their legendary CHIEF CRASY HORSE in Black Hills.
The sculptor began cutting the Memorial in1947.
He had been working almost 50 years up to his death but he had not managed to finish the Memorial.
Korczak Ziolkowski died in 1982.

their

10 children and grandchildren continue
this work.
Sceptics doubt much, Root is

85 but Danny
Sanford ( a businessman) gave up 10 mln. $
for this Project.
Root does everything though continues to live
in a very modest house.
She believes that Crazy Horse Memorial will
be finished in 30 years.
Crazy Horse Memorial impresses much more
than the faces of American Presidents in the
Rushmor Mountain.
Two grandiose Memorials are situated in the
South Dakota 30 km. From each other.
