ENGLAND

England is the largest and major part of the United Kingdom. It is situated on the Great Britain Island and border with the Scotland on the North and Wales on the West. The capital of England is London - the world’s commercial, financial, and cultural center. Other major cities are Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield.

England is the only part of the United Kingdom that doesn’t have its own Parliament and Government. UK Parliament and UK Government perform their functions for England as well.

England is famous in the world for its culture. Apart from William Shakespeare, may be the best known world and English playwright, England is also proud to be the homeland for Thomas Moore, Daniel Defoe, Lewis Carroll, Charles Dickens, Robert Burns, Herbert Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle, John Tolkien and many others. England is also has great music traditions: from Georg Handel to modern rock and pop music performers Queen, Elton John, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and many others.

England is the birthplace for many popular sports: football, rugby, cricket, boxing, and golf.

Millions of tourists are coming to England every year to see its sightseeings: Big Ben, Tower Bridge, London Eye and Westminster Cathedral.
