Слайд 2Flood
Flooding is a dangerous natural phenomenon that occurs due to
rising water levels in water bodies, and leading to flooding
of territories. This usually happens either in rainy seasons or in spring due to melting snow. But there are other causes of flooding.
Слайд 3Causes of flooding
-Prolonged rains. They lead to flooding of territories
caused by the rivers coming out of their banks, mainly.
This is because the rivers collect water in vast territories. The sediments have a strong influence on the water level in them.
- Melting of snow. Spring in many regions accumulates a huge amount of snow. Because of warming, it melts, and water flows can flood everything around. TrUe, this does not lead to catastrophic consequences.
Слайд 4- Accumulation of rainfall. Due to the accumulation of rainfall
on some sections of the rivers the bottom is raised.
This leads to a rise in the water level.
- Tsunami. The tsunami wave brings with it a huge amount of water, because of which there is a flood on the coasts. True, it has a short character.
- Destruction of dams. In the event that the dam is for some reason no longer able to restrain the pressure of the water, a breakthrough occurs. This causes a short-term, but rather strong flooding.
Слайд 5Types of floods
High water is a gradual, but rather long
rise in the water level in rivers, caused by precipitation
or melting snow. It can lead to catastrophic consequences.
- Flood - a strong but short-term rise in the water level, also caused by the melting of snow or precipitation, but very powerful.
Слайд 6Congestion - blocking of the river bed, leading to flooding
of territories.
- Wind surge
- short-term, but strong flooding caused
by the impact of strong wind on the water surface.- Other species. Caused by a variety of reasons
Слайд 7Flood effects
Most of the floods occurring are relatively weak. They
cause minor damage, depending on the strength of the phenomenon
and the terrain features. They can also rarely lead to people being evacuated, although they usually do not flood houses. In general, such floods do not pose a particular danger.
Sometimes very severe or even catastrophic floods occur. They are capable of flooding entire settlements, causing enormous material damage. In such cases, mass evacuation of the population is carried out, but people still often die. Fortunately, such dangerous flooding occurs rather rarely.
