mudslides, riverflooding, drought, sharp drops in air temperature, blizzards and snowstorms, rising water levels
and flooding in the Caspian littoral zone and the shrinking of the Aral Sea, forest and grass fires,
epidemics of highly dangerous infections, and others.
Every year Kazakhstan experiences hundreds of natural disasters, with the number of
victims reaching several thousand people and the number of dead often exceeding 100. Direct
losses from natural disasters exceed US $20 million. That data does not take into account the
possible effects of large-scale catastrophes, which have occurred many times in the history of
Kazakhstan, particularly catastrophic earthquakes
