Слайд 3The Just Right Planet
Planet Earth is not too cold.

It is

not too hot.

Planet Earth has air to breathe.

It has water

to drink.

Earth grows plants.

Animals live on Earth because there is air, water, and food to eat.

Слайд 4How the Earth spins.
It takes the Earth 24 hours to

spin one time around.

The spinning of Earth causes day and

night.

As the Earth spins into view of the Sun we have day.

When the Earth spins away from the sun we have night.

Слайд 6Earth orbits the Sun
The Earth moves around the Sun in

an egg shaped orbit.

It takes 365 ¼ days to orbit

the Sun.

The movement around the Sun causes Earth to have the four seasons.

Слайд 8The Earth and it’s layers.
The Earth has 3 main layers.

The

crust, the mantle, and the core.

We live on the crust,

it goes down about 20 miles.

The mantle is a layer of hot rocks, it goes down 2,000 miles.

The core is the very hot center of Earth. It may be as hot in the core as the Sun’s surface.

Слайд 10Did you know?
Earth is about 4.5 billion years old.

Earth may

have been different than it is now.

Earth had an ice

age at one time.

There have been people on Earth for only 2 million years.

The Earth is constantly changing.

Volcanoes, earthquakes, storms and glaciers can make changes in how the Earth looks.

The Earth and its Moon.

Слайд 12Earth’s Moon
Earth has one moon.

Our moon looks big and bright

to us because it is so close to Earth.

It is

238,900 miles from Earth.

The moon has no air.

It is estimated that our moon is 4.5 billion years old.

The moon reflects light from the Sun.

People have made up stories about the moon since ancient times. Native American Indians referred to the sun and moon as brother and sister.

Слайд 14It takes the moon one month to go around the

Earth.

The amount of light from the sun that hits the

moon and reflects back to Earth changes over a month.

These changes are called phases of the moon.

The phases are: new moon, crescent moon, first quarter moon, gibbous moon, full moon, gibbous moon, last quarter moon, crescent moon, and once again new moon.

Слайд 16Exploring the Moon
In 1959 a Russian spacecraft ‘Luna 3’ took

pictures of the back of the moon and transmitted them

back to Earth.

In 1966 the United States sent an unmanned spacecraft ‘Surveyor 1’ to land on the moon. It sent back information on the moon’s surface.

In 1968 a manned spacecraft ‘Apollo 9’ orbited the moon.

On July 20, 1969 the ‘Apollo 11’ with Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin landed on the moon.

There were 5 more manned landings on the moon.

In 1972 the last ‘Apollo 17’ mission landed on the moon.

Our astronauts did experiments and took samples and moon rocks back to Earth.
