Слайд 2St. Valentine’s Day is celebrated
on the 14th of February.
Слайд 3
This day is celebrated in many countries.
St. Valentine’s Day has roots in several legends.
Слайд 4
Many years ago the Roman Emperor Claudius II
needed soldiers, he made a law against marrying because he
felt that marriage made men want to stay at home instead of fighting wars.
Слайд 5 At that time there was a kindly priest
named Valentine. He couldn’t agree with the emperor’s decision.
VALENTINE
Слайд 6 When he saw that young couples were truly in
love, he married them secretly.
Слайд 7
Valentine had been thrown in prison for his teaching.
On the 14th of February he was beheaded.
Слайд 8
He performed a miracle- he cured the jailer’s daughter from
her blindness the night before he was executed - but
he wrote a letter to the girl, signing it “From your Valentine”.
Слайд 10One of the early symbols of love is Cupid, the
Roman God of Love, who is represented as a young
boy with a bow and arrows.

Слайд 11One of the symbols of this day is a red
rose.
This day people traditionally give these flowers. The Goddess of
Love hurried to her lover and stepped on a bush with white roses.
She wounded her foot. Her blood made the roses red. Since that time the red roses are the symbol of love.

HEARTS
The heart is the symbol of this day – the
sweets are made in the form of heart, in the
form of heart the cakes are baked. This day people send small paper hearts – the Valentines cards which always begin with “ I love you…”.
Слайд 14Pigeons are favorite birds of Venus and has long been
known as love birds. They do not change the life,
and a pair of them care of chicks. These birds are the symbols of true love, care and happiness in marriage.
Слайд 15In Africa, birds of love are colorful parrots. Most of
them have a red beak. They are called the birds
of love because when they are in pairs, they sit in a very short distance from each other.
Слайд 17On St. Valentine’s Day boys and girls, sweethearts and lovers,
husbands and wives, friends and neighbours will exchange greetings of
affection, undying love or satirical comment, called valentine cards.
Слайд 18The messages are signed “From your Valentine” or “Be My
Valentine”.
Слайд 21Although I know
that friendship reaches
Far across the miles
I’d still be
glad to see one of your warm and friendly smiles.
And
though I know
The times we’ve shared
will last within the heart.
I can’t help wishing
We weren’t so far apart!
Слайд 22 All the presents have the form of a
heart.
These are cards, candy, balloons.

finding
out who they would marry.
They planted onions
