The authors of the monument are a sculptor A.M.Opekushin and an architect N.A. Doroshenko. The monument has the status of an object of cultural heritage of federal importance. This monument is the first monument to a poet in Russia and one of the main attractions of Pyatigorsk.

Pyatigorsk appeared in 1870. It was the idea of one

of the first Lermontov’s bibliographer lieutenant P. Martyanov and a main renter of Caucasus Mineral Waters A. M. Baykov.

first voluntary contribution in sum of 2 rubles was received from two unknown peasants of taurian province.

Lermontov. Many years A.Bykov organized literary events and concerts and gave money for construction and restoration of the monument.
The funds were gathered with Lermontov readings, concerts and lotteries.

Neither the first nor the second of its tours, which

received a total of more than 120 projects, gave any results. The third tour was presented with only 15 projects. A.M. Opekushin won the competition.
