Слайд 2HISTORY
To create a monument of unrivalled size, wealth and beauty. That
was what the citizens of Olomouc had in mind when
creating the Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc. This column, which was included in the UNESCO monument list due to its historical and artistic value, is the largest free-standing Baroque sculpture in Central Europe.
Слайд 3HISTORY
The story of the column in Olomouc is an unsettled
one. The stimulus for its construction was one of the
most extreme bouts of the plague which hit Moravia at the start of the 18th century. Although the city already had one plague column at that time, the citizens thought it was not spectacular enough. The construction of the column was started by the local architect Wenzel Reder, who soon died, and after him 4 other architects and 3 sculptors continued the work.
On the spire of the column the Holy Trinity, the Assumption of the Virgin and the archangel Gabriel are depicted. Inside the column there is a chapel, and on its walls there are bas-reliefs on biblical themes.
Слайд 4HISTORY
At the base on three levels there are 18 sculptures
of saints and 14 bas-reliefs. The upper level was given
to the closest associates and relatives of Christ - Joseph, the parents of Mary Anna and Joachim, John the Baptist, as well as St. Lawrence and Jerome. There are also bas-reliefs depicting the three main virtues - Faith, Hope and Love
On an average level, Moravian and Czech saints are Cyril and Methodius, Vlasii Sevastsky, Wojciech, Jan Nepomuk and Jan Sarkander.
The lower level represents the patron saint
of the Czech saint Václav,
the Austrian saint Florian,
the student patron of Alois Gonzaga,
as well as the holy Mauritius,
Jana Kapistran,
Anthony of Padua and the bas-reliefs of
the 12 apostles.

Once it was finished, the Holy Trinity Column immediately became
a source of immeasurable pride for the people of Olomouc, who
already at that time uncovered its unique nature and artistic value. Their love for this work was so great that when the city was under siege, they set out to plead with the Prussian general to tell his soldiers not to shoot at their column. The liberal general accommodated their wishes and so you can feast your eyes on the original beauty of this place to this very day.
Слайд 6Chapel
The Olomouc column is so monumental that it could
even accommodate a small cozy chapel. And now a little
advice to photographers: the most spectacular photos of the Holy Trinity column are obtained if you make them during sunset, when the sun is equal to the top of the column - it turns out, as if the radiance emanates from it.

A Baroque gallery in the open air
The
Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc was conceived on the basis
of the symbolism of the heavenly hierarchy. Over three levels, you can see statues of saints, relief work depicting the apostles and the personification of the Virtues. Above them you can see the sculptural group of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and at the very top of the column, is the dominant feature of the Holy Trinity. The fact that the empress Maria Theresa also participated in the consecration of the column is further testament to its importance.
