Van Allen radiation belt is a zone of energetic charged
particles, most of which originate from the solar wind that is captured by and held around a planet by that planet's magnetic field.The Earth has two such belts and sometimes others may be temporarily created.

The belts of trapped radiation above the Earth's atmosphere, but within the magnetosphere, were first detected by James Van Allen in 1958. Therefore these belts are also known as Van Allen Belts.
00:00:27,900 -->00:00:41,999
The Van Allen radiation belts are a torus (doughnut shape) of energetic charged particles circling Earth around its magnetic equator and held in place by Earth's magnetic field. The main belts extend from an altitude of about 1,000 to 60,000 kilometers above the surface in which region radiation levels vary.
