the administrative center of the Totma district in the Vologda

region. The town is located on the left bank of the Sukhona River. About 10 000 people live there.

Outstanding Russian seafarers and explorers were born in Totma. Besides, it is the Small Motherland of the poet Nikolai Rubtsov. The town is famous for its monuments, museums and churches that attract tourists from all over the world.

the Great Patriotic War is located in the Park of Fighters for Freedom.

This monument consists of a sculptural group "Soldier and Mother" against the background of the stele. It was designed by the sculptor Kuraev and the architect Sviridova.

It was unveiled in 1992. The monument is made of forged aluminum.

On the 26th of February, 1941 on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the death of the famous revolutionist Ivan Babushkin, the Ledengsky district and the settlement were renamed after him. Now they are called Babushkino.
