Слайд 2What is RACE?
A human race is defined as a group
of people with certain common inherited features that distinguish them
from other groups of people.
First used to refer to speakers of a common language and then to denote national affiliations, in the 17th century.
Starting from the 19th century, the term was used in a taxonomic sense, to denote human populations defined by phenotype.
Слайд 4Classification of human races
There many different ideas about classification of
human races, some divide up to 30 different groups.
Most common
is the division of human being into 3 big race groups:
Caucasian ethnicity (European/Eurasian)
Mongoloid race (Asian-American)
Negroid (Australasian-Equatorial)

All races share 99.99+% of the same
genetic materials
The United Nations, in a 1950 statement, opted to
“drop the term ‘race’ altogether and speak of “ethnic groups”. In this case, there are more than5,000 ethnic groups in the world, according to a 1998 study published in the Scientific American.
Слайд 12Racism
Racism is the belief that characteristics and abilities can be
attributed to people simply on the basis of their race
and that some racial groups are superior to others.
Racism and discrimination have been used as powerful weapons encouraging fear or hatred of others in times of conflict and war, and even during economic downturns.
Слайд 17All races share 99.99+% of the same genetic materials which
means that division of race is largely subjective
Слайд 18All humans are the same
Race is a modern idea.
Race has
no genetic basis.
Human subspecies don’t exist.
Skin color is only skin
deep.
Most variation is within, not between, “races.”
Slavery predates race.
Race justified social inequalities as natural.
Race isn’t biological, but racism is real.
Colorblindness will not end racism.
