After the abdication of her uncle, king Edward VIII, and her father's accession to the throne in December 1936, 10-year-old Elizabeth became the heir to the British throne and moved with her parents from Kensington to Buckingham Palace.

for the Royal throne was her father and his brother,

Edward VIII. But her uncle abdicated the succession in 1936 because of his great love: he decided to marry Wallis Simpson, who was divorced. King George VI died in 1952. The coronation of Elizabeth II took place when she was 25 years old. The British welcomed this news, because the heyday of the British Empire historically fell during the reign of women-Elizabeth I Tudor and Queen Victoria. In addition, the young Queen confirmed her commitment to the national interest in her coronation speech. Her priorities were to take care of ordinary people.

Слайд 6The Queen's love story
The husband of Queen Elizabeth II —

Philip Mountbatten (after marrying the Prince of Edinburgh) has aristocratic

roots. He is a representative of the Danish Royal family of Glucksburg, one of the five children of Prince Andrew and Alice Battenberg. Lilibet (Elizabeth's pet name) met Philip when she was thirteen, and immediately fell in love with a young and statuesque student at the Royal naval College. He was only five years older than her, with a magnetism and charisma that won the young Princess over. They corresponded throughout the Second world war (Philip served in the British Navy). Parents of the Princess hoped that this hobby will pass and the girl will pay attention to other chosen ones, but she showed stubbornness in the matter of personal life. In 1946, Philip personally went to see George VI to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage. To make this possible, he had to renounce all titles (Danish and Greek Prince), accept British citizenship, and convert from Orthodoxy to Protestantism.

In 1949, the newlyweds left Buckingham Palace, moving to the island of Malta, where Philip was transferred to military service. Lilibet remembers these years as the happiest in her life, as she was away from the difficult state duties, enjoyed family happiness, experienced the joy of motherhood. Elizabeth 2's children-Charles (Prince of Wales) and Anne (Princess of great Britain) were born two years apart — in 1948 and 1950, and in 1960 she gave birth to a son, Andrew (Prince of York, Vice Admiral), and in 1964-Edward (Prince of Wessex).
