classifications of functional styles (FS), but the most common one

was introduced by I.R. Galperin. It includes the belles-letters style, the publicistic style, the newspaper style, the scientific prose style, and the style of official documents.

Each FS may be characterized by a number of distinctive features. Each FS is subdivided into a number of sub styles.

system of interrelated lexical, phraseological and grammatical means which is

perceived bу the community as a separate linguistic unity that serves the purpose of informing and instructing the reader. It goes without saying that the bulk of the vocabulary used in newspaper style is neutral and commonly literary. But apart from this, newspaper style has its specific vocabulary features.
